SES Explorer, DAVID LEWIS (who when he received the Award, held the post of Student President of the Oxford University Exploration Club) led an expedition to discover how the Afar people of Northern Ethiopia had endured the environmental and economic pressures. The findings showed how farming practices, water availability and cultural practice have adapted to these pressures. Presentations including film of the expedition have been made throughout the UK and in Ethiopia.
