SES Explorer Awards 2017

The SES welcomed over 200 guests at the SES Explorer Awards 2017 last night, which was kindly hosted by the Royal College of Surgeons and was an unmissable celebration of Exploration and Leadership.

The evening began with a ‘Taste of Expedition’ reception where guests enjoyed a glass of wine whilst meeting explorers, and seeing equipment and images from the field. Andrew Mitchell opened the official proceedings with a welcome speech after which the seven SES Explorer Award winners were presented with their Awards and gave inspiring speeches about their plans. Last year’s Award winners, Dr Stephen Spencer and Aida Cuni-Sanchez, talked and showed stunning footage from their films and Guest of Honour and the Society’s new Chairman, Neil Laughton talked of the importance of the SES today and his plans for the future of the SES.

Sean Hotung presented Rosie Stancer with the Hotung Medal - an Award created by long-time supporter of the Society and Sean’s father, H.E. Ambassador Eric Hotung, in recognition of her services to scientific exploration. Rosie and the seven Award winners were also presented with Leatherman SideKick multi-tools, kindly donated by Leatherman.

The SES is indebted to the supporters it partners with to develop these Awards, and who share its vision to support and celebrate the 'Pioneers with Purpose' in whose capable hands the future of scientific exploration lies. We are very proud of the Award winners and we wish them every success with their expeditions.
