Martin Holland speaker at SES@GauchoCity in November
Our final speaker at the ever-popular SES@GauchoCityseries of talks in 2018 is Martin Holland, a true 'Pioneer with Purpose', and winner of the SES Inspirational Explorer Awardin 2017, ahead of his pioneering Sandukui Pinnacle Expedition to Borneo. Martin will give a talk about Exploration and Conservation in the heart of Borneoon Tuesday 27 November 2018at the Gaucho (City), London. These events are kindly hosted by Gaucho City and supported by Cadogan Tate, for which the SES is extremely grateful.
Martin leads an attempt to film the first free ascent of an iconic, isolated, and remote 250m limestone pinnacle in Central Kalimantan, while biodiversity and social scientists study the surrounding area. Led by an almost entirely Indonesian team, filmed for an Indonesian audience, this expedition will/would be the most challenging, exciting and ambitious of his career.
Since founding the Heart of Borneo Project in 2010 as the legacy of the award-winning Murung Raya Expedition, Martin has been working at the frontiers of rainforest conservation in Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo), with a special interest in the power of expeditions to inspire and empower people, while gathering vital conservation data and media. Since that first expedition, Martin has developed his approach to be much more focused on delivering outputs that are relevant, first and foremost, to the host country. Using his latest expedition as an example, this approach will be the focus of his talk.
