Sam McConnell speaker at SES@GauchoCity in May
The SES is delighted to announce that Sam McConnell will be the SES@GauchoCity speaker in May 2018 and will give a talk about Discovering the Red Land on Tuesday 29 May 2018 at the Gaucho (City), London. These events are kindly hosted by Gaucho City and supported by Cadogan Tate, for which the SES is extremely grateful.
Since 1997 Sam has led over a hundred teams in deserts across Africa and the Middle East, from the Namib & Kalahari to the Sinai and the Western & Eastern Deserts, Sudan and Jordan. He has recently returned from trekking with camels across the Eastern desert of Egypt, from the Red Sea to the Nile following sections of the 2,000 year old Nova Via Hadrianus. During the desert crossing the team explored the ruins of Mons Claudianus and the pre-dynastic rock art of Wadi Um Salamat. Sam’s 30-minute talk, supported by stills and video will give a brief insight into what it’s like to travel across a desert in a way that hasn’t changed for 3,000 years and will discuss the rich and diverse history of the Eastern Desert, known as the Red Land.
